The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Commission (NCAOOSCE) has said it that will partner with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, to conduct Almariji census as well as build the capacity of Tsangaya teachers in the country.
This the commission said this is in line with its commitments to checkmate the scourge of out-of-school syndrome, with Almajirs constituting a greater percentage of it.
Muhammad Idris, the commission’s Executive Secretary said the commission will partner the University in building the capacity of the teachers (Ulamas) in preparation of the proposed Almajiri Census.
Receiving a management team from the Institute of Education of the university led by Professor Abubakar Muhammad Jumare, Idris said they are ready to collaborate with the ABU management in training, retraining of Tsanagaya teachers in an effort to build their capacity.
According to him, the commission is poised to obtain credible and verifiable data on Almajiris and out-of-school children across the country.
“The delegation led by Professor Abubakar Muhammad Jumare, presented a concept note regarding the proposed Almajiri census and sought a strategic partnership for capacity-building, training and retraining of Ulamas”.
“I assured them of our strong commitment to collaborate with the Institute in ensuring the acquisition of credible and verifiable data on Almajiris and out-of-school children”, said Idris.
