Mr Ezekiel Dalhatu, Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, representing the FCT, has urged indigenous media practitioners to focus more on investigative journalism to promote peace and unity in the territory.
Dalhatu, who made the call on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by Gbayi Media Forum, said investigative journalism would go a long way to expose some challenges faced by the indigenes in FCT.
According to him, there are communities facing infrastructural challenges ranging from potable water, healthcare facilities, education to access road networks, which have not been properly showcased in the media.
“With the recent outbreak of cholera in the area, there is need for the Federal Capital Territory Administration, to enhance healthcare service delivery and provide portable water to some communities in dare need,’’ he said.
The commissioner stressed the need for the forum to work toward organising election debate for Area Council chairmen in the forthcoming 2022 FCT Area Council Elections.
He appealed to the indigenous media to be fair, precise and balance their reportage while performing their respective duties.
Responding, the Chairman of Gbagyi Media Forum, Mr Sunday Gbegbe said that the forum came for familiarisation visit and to congratulate him on the recent appointment as the Commissioner representing FCT.
