Coronavirus: Bauchi Education commissioner frowns at Islamic schools who defy govt directives on total closure

Dr. Aliyu Tilde, Bauchi state commissioner for Education has handed down strong warning on all Islamic and Qur’anic schools against defying government directives on closure of all schools and restricted gatherings.

WikkiTimes recalls that the state government had on Sunday announced the closure of all public and private schools across the 20 LGAs of the state due to outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

Tilde in a press statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi, “the Ministry of Education has noted with dismay the refusal of some Islamic and Qur’anic schools to abide by government directives on total closure of schools.

“We urge them to immediately do so in compliance with the government instructions to avoid the spread of the virus”

Dr Tilde said the warning was necessary in order to protect the almajiri, saying “these almajiris come from different parts and they go back to where they came from during the rainy season.”

“They almajiri usually go round from house to house, street to street begging for food to eat, this will certainly expose them to the risk of contracting the disease more than any other segment of the society,” he said.

The Commissioner warned that in the event any of the almajiris contract the virus, it will will immediately spread to the, adding that no medical capacity to contain possible outbreak.

The commissioner said however called on all Islamic and Qur’anic schools to immediately close down and return all the almajiri children back to their homes “until this disaster is brought to an end.”

He directed all weekend part-time courses of any kind be also closed down immediately.
