Council Ratifies Renaming of Bauchi Varsity

The Governing Council of Bauchi State University Gadau has approved renaming of the university to Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU).

Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has earlier assented to the bill that renamed the university to SAZU into law.

Spokesperson of the university, Auwal Hassan who disclosed this to reporters in a statement on Thursday, said the Council reached the decision during its Meeting.

He said the change of name of the university after late nationalist, Malam Sa’adu Zungur, a native of Bauchi, signifies a milestone in the university’s rich history.

“Professor Ango Abdullahi, the Pro Chancellor of the University expressed the Council’s unanimous decision to adopt the new name in honor of late Nigerian nationalist and politician, Sa’adu Zungur, following Governor Bala Mohammed’s signing of the bill to rename the institution as passed by the State House of Assembly.

Our correspondent reports that the initiative to rename the university after Malam Sa’adu Zungur has been widely praised by various stakeholders, including faculty members, alumni, and the general public.

Similarly, renaming the university reflects a deep sense of appreciation for the sacrifices and achievements of Sa’adu Zungur in the service of the people.
