Court Remands 2 Unemployed Men Over Alleged Robbry

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded two unemployed men  who allegedly robbed four people in a hotel.

The defendants are Alex Ugwu, 21, and Asuquo Ekpeyoung, 27, who addresses were not provided.

They are charged with  conspiracy and robbery.

The court could not take their pleas as the Chief Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo,  said she needed advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Matepo ordered that the defendants should be kept at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the DPP’s advice.

He adjourned the case until Nov. 22 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences  on Sept. 20, at Cameo Suits and Hotel, Okota in Isolo, Lagos.

Ogu alleged that the defendants jumped the fence of the hotel and robbed four people of mobile phones valued at N165,000.

He said that the defendants were in possession of  cutlasses and iron rods during the robbery.

Ogu added that the defendants robbed one Mr Innocent Chukwu of carton of  alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks worth N154,800, at cutlasspoint.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
