A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 35-year-old carpenter, Godwin Baba, be remanded in a correctional centre pending bail.
The police charged Baba, who resides in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not grant bail to Baba, adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for ruling in the bail application.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that Sunday Iliya, who is the defendant’s neighbour, reported the matter at the Sabon Tasha Police Station on Aug. 2.
Leo said that the defendant fraudulently collected N150, 000 from the complainant to produce a wardrobe for him and he failed to do.
The prosecutor added that all efforts made by the complainant to get his money back failed.
The offence, Leo said, contravened the provisions of sections 297 and 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017. (NAN)
