Court remands herder for house break, stealing N25,000

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a herdsman, Kabiru Dan-Mallam, for allegedly breaking into a businessman’s house and stealing N25,000.

The police charged Dan-Mallam, with house breaking , causing hurt and theft.

The Magistrate, Mrs Baliqees Baraje, who noted that the accused has been arrested severally for the offence of house breaking, ordered that Dan-Mallam be remanded at Okekura Prison Yard, Ilorin.

She therefore adjourned the case until April 11, for further mention.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Oderinde Abideen, informed the court that the accused person broke into the house of Abubakar Hawau at Ologona via Oke-Ode in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara tat night.

Abideen alleged that the defendant attacked the complainant with a cutlass and made away with N25, 000.

He said that the accused was arrested by the security guard, in the bush where he was hiding.

He added that the accused is an habitual criminal who had been severally arrested for the same offence in the past.

The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 355, 246 and 287 of Penal Code Law.

He prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.
