COVID-19: Lee Group fumigates markets, public places in Jigawa

The Lee Group of Companies, has embarked on fumigation of public areas and places of worship in Jigawa to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

Dr Abba Zakari, the state Commissioner for Health, told newsmen after the launch of the exercise at the popular Yantifa market in Dutse, on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that three fire fighting vehicles belonging to the company were seen with banners reading “Jigawa State, in Collaboration with Lee Group of Companies, fumigate the environment to fight Coronavirus.”

The vehicles were seen fumigating major roads in the state capital, as part of measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Zakari said that the exercise would be conducted in markets, mosques, churches and other strategic public places in the three senatorial districts of the state, including major towns in the state.

The commissioner, who commended the group for the gesture, urged residents to cooperate with the fumigators for successful conduct of the exercise.

“Lee Group has promised to assist us (government) to fight COVID-19 by fumigating strategic places, and here they are today.

“The fumigation is very critical at this point in time, particularly to disinfect places of large gatherings, such as churches, markets, motor parks and other public places,” the Zakari said.

NAN also reports that the Jigawa government had earlier closed its borders with Bauchi, Kano, Katsina and Yobe states and closed all weekly markets, as part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state. (NAN)
