COVID-19: Plateau state establishes testing centre

In an effort to curb the spread of COVID 19 pandemic and reduce pressure on the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control’s reference laboratory in Abuja, authorities in Plateau state say they have established a testing center at the National Veterinary Research Institute, in Vom.

Dan Manjang, Plateau state information Commissioner stated this while addressing Journalists, saying, “the laboratory at NVRI has the capacity to do the testing. “But the one proposed by NCDC is yet to be officially reactivated,” he said.

The commissioner confirmed to WikkiTimes that the laboratories in JUTH, NVIR and Plateau Specialist Hospital have the capacity to engage in the testing too.

Plateau has yet to discover any index case of the virus, but authorities in the state have imposed a total lockdown in a bid to tame its spread.

With the new development in Plateau state NCDC reports that there are 11 laboratories with COVID-19 testing capacity in the country.

WikkiTimes reports that as at yesterday night, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed 13 new cases of the novel virus, catapulting the number of the infected persons to 318 with 10 deaths and 70 discharged.
