Operatives of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘D’ have confiscated about 628 jerry cans, four drums of petrol and about 78 pieces of donkey skin Worth N20 Million.
Comptroller of Zone ‘D’, Aliyu Abubakar disclosed this while briefing journalists on Wednesday in Bauchi.
He said the breakthrough was recorded between September 6th and October 8th this year.
The Guardian reports that the total value of the items is worth about N20,330,225.
He said the feat was achieved through intelligence gathering and proactive response by operatives of the various units.
Abubakar called on people to make credible information available to NCS that could lead to ending smuggling.
Last month, NCS also destroyed about 1015 sacks of donkey skin and meat. Also, in August this year, NCS intercepted about 6,168 donkey skin.
On February 18th this year, African leaders banned killing of donkeys for their skin across the content. The ban seeks to protect the animal from theft, slaughter and trafficking. In Africa, there are about 33 million donkeys.
