DAN educates Immigration officers on diabetes, confers award on comptroller

Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN) has confered an award of diabetes ambassador on the Comptroller of Immigration Service Cross River State Command Okey Ezugwu.

The association confered the award on Mr Ezugwu in view of his support to the association and people living with diabetes.

In their remarks while delivering lectures to immigration officers at the state command on the disease, the chairman Diabetes Association of Nigeria Cross River State Chapter and NationaI Secretary General comrade Bernard Enyia advised officers and men of the command to watch out for warning signs and symptons of Diabetes to prevent complications and sudden death.

They also urged them to take advantage of the free blood sugar test offered by the Association in collaboration with Kelvin Oluchai Diabetes Foundation with support from Roche Pharmaceuticals and always take care of their feet, eat healthy foods and avoid obesity as parts of measures to prevent diabetes.

The association recommended that every family should own a glucometer machine to check their blood sugar conviniently at home so that family members can know their diabetes statuses.

They also donated a set of Diabetes reference books in a flash drive and a glucometer to the command’s Clinic.

Responding, the immigration boss expressed appreciation to the association for the award and lecture promising that the service will continue to support and assist patients living with Diabetes in Cross River State, Hepatitis B, River blindness and other neglected tropical diseases.

He admonished officers and men of Nigeria Immigration Service to be health conscious and always visit the hospital for check up pointing out that many people move around with some of these diseases undiagnosed.

He promised that the service in the state would spend money of any quantum on medical care for his officers and men than commit any financial resources on burial ceremonies.
