As Africa’s richest person Alh. Aliko Dangote visited his home state of Kano Friday, the State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to the business tycoon to construct a specialist hospital that tackles sickle cell conditions in the State.
Governor Yusuf also urged the President of Dangote Group to expedite the completion of intervention projects his foundation initiated at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano City.
WikkiTimes had earlier reported that Dangote Foundation had abandoned the construction of a modern maternity and pediatric unit, surgical and diagnostic unit as well as the accident and emergency section it had started in the Kano largest hospital a decade ago.
The governor and his cabinet received Aliko Dangote at the Government House, in his first visit to Kano since the ascension of Governor Yusuf’s administration.
“I am soliciting for the establishing of sickle cell hospital in Kano” Yusuf appealed as he explained that “my government had reclaimed a state-owned pediatric hospital that was sold by the previous administration”
He also appealed to Dangote to continue to support his government with medical equipment in the now-recovered Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital.
He added, “Your contribution in Murtala Hospital on projects which you conceptualized and started years back has been stagnant for some time now …there is a need for us to appeal to you to please give the necessary attention to see to the completion of the project which includes Accident & Emergency, surgical and diagnostic theatre complex and maternity and paediatrics at the same hospital.”
The governor further commended the business mogul for his various interventions, especially in areas of education, health and human empowerment.
He vowed to revive the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Centre built by the previous administration to engage youths in various skills programmes to curb unemployment and youth restiveness in the state.
Yusuf called on the richest black man on earth to support the people of Kano as Nigerians continue to suffer abject poverty and rising costs of living.
On his part, Aliko Dangote commended Kano State for prioritising security in the state, calling for sustaining measures to ensure peace and stability prevailed.
He assured the governor and the people of the State of his continued support for the well-being and development of the state.
