Day-Old Baby Found Dead in Bauchi Refuse Dump

Residents of Kobi Street near Wunti Gate in Bauchi were thrown into shock when the lifeless body of a day-old baby was discovered in a refuse dump.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the infant was wrapped in two black leather bags and abandoned behind a local shop.

Musa Jibrin, community leader of Wunti North, recounted the harrowing discovery on Friday morning.

“I was informed that a baby girl’s lifeless body was dumped behind Alhaji Babangida Mai Coca-Cola’s shop,” he said.

He added, “When I arrived, I saw the baby tied inside two black leather bags. I immediately alerted the Mai Gunduma and reported the matter to the Police at Township Station.”

Our correspondent reports that police personnel working at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium and Township Divisions promptly responded to the scene.

Following protocol, the community refrained from touching the body until the authorities arrived. The baby was then retrieved by the police for further investigation.

The incident was confirmed by Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, who mobilized officers to secure the site and collect evidence.

He assured residents that a thorough investigation would be conducted to identify the perpetrators of the tragic act.
