Despite Previous Conviction, Senator Gumau’s Ex-wife Uses “His Official Letter Head” To Defraud Another Woman

Amina Lawal Yahaya Gumau, ex-wife to the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District has allegedly used the official letterhead of the law-maker to defraud one Salmah Suleiman of a whopping N1.4 million, WikkiTimes can exclusively report.

Gumau’s ex-wife deceitfully lured her prey by convincing her that her ex-husband will be renovating mosques in his constituency and that Salmah will be contracted the job of supplying cement and zinc.

“She was able to convince me by telling me that her husband (Senator Gumau) wants to distribute 100 bundles of zinc and 200 bags of cement for the renovation of mosques in his constituency and that I should supply her the materials worth N6,910,000.

“She was able to extract N1,450,000 from me before I realized that it was a pure scam”, Salmah said.

The letterhead paper in possession of WikkiTimes houses the quotations of the 200 bags of cement and 100 bundles of Zinc, worth N6, 910,000 in total.

The original letterhead paper of the senator used to defraud Salmah also contains his legislative office address and his aide’s phone number.

“I became suspicious of the whole thing after I have repeatedly made attempts to speak with her on the phone, but I couldn’t get her and she refused to come to where I’m. I had to report the issue to the Police”, Salmah told WikkiTimes.

She said the police in Bauchi invited the Senator’s ex-wife, but she refused to honour their invitation.

WikkiTimes recalled that in March 2021, Amina was convicted by a Bauchi High Court for defrauding someone of N6.2 million. The case was filed against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

But in what surprised many people at the time, Amina was given an option to pay a fine of N30,000 as against serving a three-year jail term.

When WikkiTimes contacted the lawmaker regarding Amina’s action, he said the woman in question is no longer his wife.

“Malam Haruna (Assalamu alaikum), I want you to [know] that the woman in question is not my wife, this is a woman I divorced in July 2019. And the letter headings she is using are fake”, Gumau told WikkiTimes on WhatsApp.

He said security agencies have already established that the letterhead paper used by his ex-wife is a forged one.
