The Kano State Government and its Local Government Areas (LGAs) collectively received 73,969,120,334.96 in federal allocations for March and April 2025, according to the latest disbursement data published by BudgIT.
The funds, derived from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), showed a drop in fiscal inflows to support governance and development in Nigeria’s most populous state.
WikkiTimes reports that Kano and its LGAs received over 79 billion as their allocations for January and February 2025
State Government Allocations
The data showed that the State Government received the sum of ₦39.45 billion, almost evenly divided as ₦20.28 billion in March and ₦19.17 billion in April, respectively.
LGA Allocations
The data further showed that 36 out of 44 LGAs of the state received a total of ₦34.91 billion, ₦16.92 billion for April, and ₦17.99 billion for March.
WikkiTimes could not access allocations for 8 LGAs, namely Dala, Garko, Gaya, Kabo, Kiru, Kunchi, Kura, and Tofa.
According to the breakdown, Nasarawa LGA got the highest allocations of ₦818.48 million and ₦870.03 million for April and March, respectively.
Conversely, Warawa LGA received the lowest allocations of ₦392.39 million in April and ₦417.08 million in March.
The allocations come amid rising poverty rates in Nigeria, revealing the need for strategic resource deployment to spur grassroots development.
Kano receives these funds while confronting severe water scarcity, crisis-ridden basic education, weak healthcare, rising poverty, and debates on LGA autonomy.
Transparency advocates demand for public LGA spending audits, driven by longstanding allegations of fund mismanagement and diversion by the state government.
