Dogara Accuses Bauchi Gov of Colluding With Police To Rig Saturday’s Guber Polls

Yakubu Dogara, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives has accused the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of colluding with the State police command to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial candidate, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd) in the March 18th gubernatorial election.

Dogara refuted the allegations levelled against Yakubu Shehu, a serving APC member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stating that they were baseless.

The police had declared Shehu wanted for criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace and culpable homicide, offering a N1 million bounty for anyone with useful information leading to his arrest.

Dogara alleged that the police failed to follow due process in arresting a serving lawmaker, instead opting to declare him wanted, which raised suspicions.

He claimed that the police were collaborating with the government to crack down on members of the APC as the incumbent governor was losing ground in the election. He also alleged that the governor was lying to cover his tracks, with the police’s help.

Dogara further revealed that he was part of the campaign team that went to the governor’s hometown, and incidents of violence always occurred in particular locations, such as the hometown of the Chairman of the PDP, the local government of the present commissioner of Local government and the sitting governor’s hometown in Duguri.

He stated that the APC conducted rallies in different villages, including Duguri, where a young man holding a loudspeaker was telling people to come out with weapons to fight the APC members. Gunshots were then heard within the town, but Dogara claimed that the casualties were used as security details, and it made no sense to suggest that their own security personnel shot their own colleagues.

Dogara expressed concern that the police violated the law in inviting a sitting lawmaker without following due process, rushing to judgement based on a mere allegation. He argued that the police should enforce the law, not break it, and give Shehu an opportunity to answer to the accusations if he had committed any offence. Dogara had seen Yakubu, who was in a car and had no weapons.
