Dogara Sues WikkiTimes, Demands N2 Billion As Damages

The former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has filed a lawsuit against WikkiTimes over a publication he considered defamatory.

WikkiTimes had in an exhaustive investigation revealed how a whopping N1 billion constituency project nominated by the former speaker to build model schools in Bauchi South Federal Constituency was mismanaged.

The story which detailed how the former speaker failed in delivering the model school project, also revealed how the contractors who were awarded the contracts shortchanged several communities billed to benefit from the project.

The report also cited how Mr Dogara stashed tricycles and books in his house meant to be distributed to the constituents and schools in the area.

After the report was published, WikkiTimes’ Publisher Haruna Mohammed Salisu was threatened.

Mr Dogara through his solicitors, BAUSHE CHAMBERS had earlier written to WikkiTimes, calling on the medium to withdraw the publication and tender an apology. The medium insisted its reporting was credible.

The lawmaker in the lawsuit marked BA/332/2021 filed against WikkiTimes news outlet argued that the publication “is mischievous, false and malicious in every material particular.”

Mr Dogara in the lawsuit is seeking N2 billion, “being general and exemplary damages against the defendant for libel”, and an additional N500,000 as cost of filing and prosecution.

The case is scheduled for mention on t February 16, 2022.
