Dogara’s Warning Turns Prophetic As Violent Protest Mars Baba Gonto Memorial Lecture

The earlier security warning issued by the 8th Speaker of the National Assembly, Yakubu Dogara has turned prophetic as violent protest has marred the smooth conduct of late Sayawa sage, Baba Peter Gonto’s 21st memorial anniversary.

The event which took place on Friday 31st December, 2021 at Government day secondary school Bogoro, could not end well as angry youths reportedly barricaded the two roads leading to Bogoro local government area, venue of the state, in what later turn violent.

Consequently, Bauchi state Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed who was expected to be the Special Guest of Honor at the event did not attend due to unknown reasons.

Our Correspondent who was among a crew of Journalists invited to cover the event could not gain access to Bogoro as the hoodlums blocked all the roads leading to the LG headquarters.

The journalists were forced to turn back upon receiving information that the violent protest was going on at Bogoro junction.

It was gathered that the violent protest was due to alleged refusal by the main organizers of the event to include some prominent sons and daughters of the area in the planning and final execution of the programme .

It will be recalled that a purported letter written to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dogara Yakubu alerting of a possible breach of peace in the area should the event allowed to hold was circulated in the social media.

Yakubu Dogara who is currently the member representing Bogoro/Dass/ Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives had requested that the organizers be made to sign an undertaking that, should anything happened, they would be held responsible.

His warning fell on deaf ears, as the organisers went ahead to carry put the event.
