Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State said people in the state should relinquish expectations of food palliative, stressing that they must embrace farming for agricultural self-sufficiency.
While speaking at the inauguration of a new fertilizer company in Gombe, the governor urged the people in the state to embrace farming, citing his government’s commitment to supporting agriculture by offering fertilizers to those ready to engage in agriculture.
He emphasised that food palliative would not be extended to those unwilling to participate in agricultural endeavours, citing the plans to redirect remaining food items to public schools.
Yahaya disclosed directives to procure 2,000 tons of fertilizer from the newly established company, with intentions to launch the initiative by the end of May.

He also expressed determination to eliminate discrepancies in fertilizer distribution, reiterating that individuals opting out of farming should not expect government support.
The governor stressed the government’s resolve to prioritize agricultural self-sufficiency over continued reliance on food palliative.
The Gombe State government had earlier announced that it targeted 90,000 beneficiaries in the state for the food palliative comprising rice and other items.
