Don’t Make History As Nigeria’s Worst President— Gabam Tells Buhari

The National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari over rising killings in Northern Nigeria, saying the President may bequeath a terrible history in Nigeria if the spate of killings continues.

Gabam said Buhari had allowed Carnage, barbarism kidnapping, maiming and other forms of criminality to thrive at the expense of the citizens.

The politician who commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto State over the recent killing of over 40 travellers, expressed concerns that the commuters were innocently burnt beyond recognition in a bus.

He described the killings as sad, barbaric, unacceptable and painful.

Shehu Gabam criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for issuing a mere written statement instead of personally visiting the government and people of Sokoto to commiserate with them.

“It is very bad, sad and painful that at a time over forty Nigerians were killed, burned beyond recognition in Sokoto, the president of the country, Muhammadu Buhari ended up issuing a written statement to commiserate with the government and people of Sokoto”, he said.

“It is disheartening that the President who is the Commander-In-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces will resort to issuing only Condolence letter when over 40 travellers were gruesomely murdered, burnt beyond recognition”, Gabam added.

According to him, “it is expected that as the president, Muhammadu Buhari should have visited the state to sympathize with the relatives of the victims who were burned to ashes and beyond recognition instead of issuing only Condolence letter”.

“You should have gone there to share in their pains and anger because a lot killings have been going on for weeks in Sokoto, but Mr president you only chose to go to Lagos to launch a book, living the people of Sokoto and relatives of the victims in anguish and pains”, he added.

“Nigeria has never witnessed this, the kind of decay, the kind of barbarism, the kind of lawlessness and absence of deterrence that has enveloped this country”, Gabam fumed.

Gabam who also said that the governors have much more share of blame for what is going on, however, insisted that the bulk of the blame stops at the desk of the president who is the Commander-in-Chief.

“Mr President, you must do everything humanly possible to safe this country otherwise you go down in history as the only president Nigeria has ever produced in recent history that allow this kind of carnage and barbarism, kidnapping, raping of women, maiming in our own country”, he advised.

Gabam who said that he summoned the courage to tell the President the truth irrespective of the consequences he may likely face, maintained that “this is not the life that we chose to live and this is not the country we wish to have”.

According to him, the President was ill-advised to attend a book launch while innocent Nigerians were being attacked by barbarians.
