Don’t misinterpret our strict budget scrutiny as an act of witch hunt—BAHA Speaker tells MDAs

Bauchi state ministries, departments and agencies have been told not to perceive strict scrutiny by the state assembly on the on-going budget defense as an act of witch hunt, but rather, a patriotic effort to ensure that the people of Bauchi state get the best dividends of democracy out of the 2020 appropriation bill.

The Bauchi state assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman stated this on Friday during budget defence of the Bauchi State Ministry of Information which took place at the Committee Room of the State House of Assembly.

Speaker Suleiman however, solicited for the MDAs cooperation and understanding while discharging their constitutional responsibility of budget scrutiny as well as oversight functions.

The Speaker while calling on Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State as well as the Executive to see legislators as partners in progress, solicited for their cooperation and understanding to enable the house discharge its constitutional responsibility of budget scrutiny as well as oversight functions.

On his part, the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu who described the Speaker’s attendance at the venue of the budget defence as unprecedented commended him for sparing time to attend the Budget Defence twice.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Information Dr. Ladan Salihu who was at the assembly to defend his ministry’s budget  expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his presence, describing him as the most media friendly Speaker.
