Don’t Politicise Humanitarian Needs of Bauchi Floods’ Victims, Bala Mohammed Warns Sadiya Farouq

Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed Abdulkadir has warned  Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Development Minister Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq against colouring succour to victims of various flood incidences in Bauchi with politics.

The minister is the wife of the 2023 Bauchi APC governorship candidate, Air Vice Marshall Sadique Baba Abubakar (retired). The former Chief of Air Staff is Bala’s biggest contender going into the 2023 general elections.

The governor said this in Darazo Monday when he paid an under-spot assessment visit to flooded communities of Darazo local government.

He said addressing the humanitarian needs of the citizens of the country should be done regardless of their political or regional affiliations.

Bala said Bauchi Voters will only vote for people they have tried and trust, hence, politics is never a do-or-die affair.

The governor called on Federal Government to come in and assist through NEMA the victims of floods in Darazo and Kirfi local governments.

He, however, raised concerns over the act of sidelining money meant for assistance by some nefarious individuals trusted with a federal obligation.

The governor said he will personally write to call on the federal government to come in considering the magnitude of the flood as it affects many parts of the state like Kirfi, Gwaram and Gololo among others.

Bala said it is a relief that no life was lost during the incident and promised them that relief packages will be made available to all the affected communities.

He said the flood it was learned occurred as a result of water accumulated outside the town which was as a result of construction work being carried out noting that next time they have to consider the environmental effect of works before starting.
