‘Dumped To Die’ — How Bauchi Residents Saved Newborn Dumped On Rock With His Placenta

A newborn with his placenta (yet to be removed) has been found lying helplessly where he was dumped on a rock at Sarkin Kudu area of Bogoro Local Government, Bauchi State.

The child, according to Punch, was found without clothes on him. WikkiTimes understands that the child could probably be a day or two old as his placenta was still hung around him.

A resident who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the child was abandoned, Wednesday evening, by an unknown mother.

According to the source: “We woke up this morning with the sad news that a newborn baby boy has been abandoned near a bush here. The mother of the baby left him crying on top of one rock in the area with his face covered to the ground.

“We quickly asked some of our women to rescue the baby and they did. It is really sad and unfortunate that the mother of the newborn baby abandoned him without removing his placenta and without clothes.

“The baby was born in the middle of the night on Wednesday and the mother abandoned him there. I’m sure she abandoned him with the intention that he will just die before daybreak.”

“Although we are not happy with this development, we thank God that the baby was found alive and saved from danger. And as human beings, we have to take care of this baby,” he added.

WikkiTimes gathered that the baby had been handed over to social workers in the area while the residents confirmed they had gone to get his basic needs.

One of the social workers confirmed the incident to journalists, saying the baby was found by residents of the area.

The social worker who doesn’t want her name in print said: “Our office received a report yesterday (Thursday) that a newborn baby boy was abandoned in Sarkin Kudu. Before we got there, the newborn baby had been picked up by one of the women in the area who had started taking care of him.

Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Wakil, also confirmed the incident.

“Yesterday, Thursday, June 2nd, 2022, at about 8.30 am, some good samaritans of the community went to the Bogoro Divisional Police Headquarters and reported that, on their way to the farm, they discovered an abandoned baby crying in an uncompleted building,” Wakil said.

He added: “Upon receiving the complaint, the DPO and his team moved to the scene and took the abandoned baby to the Bogoro General Hospital for a medical check-up.

“After the medical doctors have certified that the baby is healthy, they handed the baby to the Social Welfare Department of the Bogoro Local Government Area.”

Wakil said investigations are ongoing to find the mother of the baby and find out why she chose to abandon the newborn in such a condition.
