Ekiti PDP promises transparent congress

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti has promised that its remaining congresses will be transparent and democratic.

Mr Diran Odeyemi, the Ekiti PDP Caretaker Committee Secretary, made the assertion in a statement on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.

He assured party members that the party congresses would follow diligent democratic processes even if the ongoing reconciliation efforts to appease aggrieved members failed.

According to Odeyemi, a letter suggesting the earliest conclusion of Local and State Executive Committee has been sent to the national chairman to avoid an extension of the caretaker committee beyond the 90 days mandate.

He pointed out that the state Caretaker Committee, like every other state executive committees of the PDP, are not mandated to conduct elections.

“It can only assist officials assigned to do so by the office of the national organising secretary of the party at the appropriate time,” he said.

Odeyemi also noted that the committee did not have the mandate to determine mode of election of party officials that would run contrary to the party constitution.(NAN)
