The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council IPAC, Engr. Yusuf Yabagi, was among those present at the signing of the long-debated 2021 Electoral Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, said the signing was promising and historic.
Engr. Yabagi maintained that it is time for Nigeria to ensure free and fair elections and avoid repeating the previous problems as well as reducing unnecessary spending.
He noted that the new law would address the issue of vote theft and distortions associated with vote counting and movements, stating that the law makes it easier as the polls must now be on machines.
On public office holders whom the signed bill barred from voting at party’s congresses, Engr. Yabagi however backed President Buhari, stated that it violated the Nigerian constitution and voting should not be denied to any citizen.
Buhari signed the law on Friday during a brief ceremony at the Presidential Villa Abuja in the presence of the Speaker of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission among others.
