EU, UNICEF Renovates Health Facilities in Bauchi, Hands over to SPHCDA

European Union (EU) in collaboration with UNICEF​ Nigeria has renovated, equipped and handed over a primary healthcare facility in Liman Katagum community of Bauchi Local Government Area to the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA).

At a short ceremony to mark the handing over of the health facility ,​ the Chief of Field Office,​ UNICEF Nigeria, Bauchi Field Office Mr. Bhanu Pathak said it is one of the 29 PHCs that has undergone renovation and equipping in the first phase of the 162 targeted for such intervention.

Mr. Pathak said UNICEF had received funding from the EU to support Bauchi State to implement healthcare services under a project tagged, “Strengthening Primary Health Care and Community Resilience for Improved Maternal, New born,​ Child Health & Nutrition”, of which Bauchi State is among the three northern states that are beneficiaries to the project.

“In Bauchi State,​ the implementation of the project is to ensure all 323 PHCs, one per ward, are to provide integrated PHC services for 24 hours in the 7 days of the week.

“So far, we have strengthened the capacity of over 3500 health workers on different PHC services, provided medical supplies, equipment and motor cycles worth 1,856,643.65 Dollars. We have also provided mobile storage units worth 14,000 Dollars”.

Mr. Pathak also reiterate that UNICEF will continue to partner with Bauchi State government and will support the state to implement interventions that would fast track the attainment of SDGs in the their various sectors of collaboration.

Receiving the renovated Health facility on behalf of the LG,​ Executive Chairman of the SPHCDA Dr.​ Rilwanu Mohammed thanked both EU and UNICEF for their humanitarian services .
