An alumni, Ex-Junior Airmen Association (EX-JAM) World Wide, of Airforce Military School (AMS) Jos, has donated a 10KVA solar power unit, as part of its social responsibility services to the school.
The donation was made by the ’89 set of the association on Saturday in Jos, to immortalise their late set mate, Wing Commander Chimda Hedima, who was killed in 2014 by Boko Haram insurgents while serving in the North-East.
Speaking at the event, Mr Antigha Otu, a member of the set, said the solar power unit was donated to address the epileptic power supply which was affecting academic activities in the school.
“The donation is to mark our 25th anniversary and assist in power supply to the classes during prep, sickbay and the students wing of the school,” he said.
Otu said the gesture would have multiplier effect advantages because many activities in the school were dependent on steady power supply.
In his remarks, Mr Joshua Gana, the President General of the EX-JAM worldwide said the donation would enhance knowledge and learning of students, saying the 88 set of the school had in 2018 renovated and equipped the school library.
He said the alumni also had a special welfare package for its members and their families called the Ex-Jam Humanitarian Trust Fund.
Gana said through the fund, many health assistances and empowerment schemes were being given to members and their families.
“Hedima was my class mate, we were heartbroken when we heard of his gruesome murder, we have since reached out to his family and are happy that his wife was studying abroad , sponsored by the Nigerian airforce,” he said.
