Ex-PUNCHMan Arraigned for N950m Scam

A 45- year-old ex staff of Punch Nigeria Ltd, Ogunbanjo Mikhail, has been arraigned for “defrauding” two men to the sum of N950 million.

The ex-Punchman who was the Head of Copy Sales was arraigned in a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos State, yesterday, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He standing a trial bordering on a three-count charges. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Rita Momah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences from January 2017 to December 2022 at Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Momah submitted that the defendant obtained N450 million from one Mr Olusola lkuyajesin and N500 million from one Mr Durodola Balogun under false pretences of using the money to buy stationeries.

She states further that the defendant forged the organisation’s Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) to carry out the acts, in contravention of Sections 287, 314 and 365 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatubosun, granted the accused a N10 million bail with two sureties in like sum. But one of them must have a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.

In addition, the court ordered the defendant to deposit his international passport.

The Chief Magistrate , however, adjourned the case until April 5 for substantive hearing.
