Faceoff Between Checkpoint Soldiers, Yahaya Bello’s Conyoy Stirs Assisanation Narrative

Yesterday, an official of Kogi State said Governor Yahaya Bello was waylaid yesterday, but the latter denied it as the police said it was an interaction between the governor’s convoy and military personnel at a checkpoint.

The Commissioner of Police for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Haruna Garba, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo alleged that Bello was waylaid a few kilometers from Abuja.

Fanwo said the governor was on his way to an official engagement from Lokoka.

He said the attack occurred at about 4 p.m. on Sunday, adding that the attackers wore military uniforms.

Fanwo said the attackers waylaid the governor’s motorcade and fired sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy.
