Father of a 26-year-old scavenger, Ismaíl Yahaya, who was brutally murdered in Keffi, Nasarawa State, is appealing to the authorities to ensure that his son’s killers face justice.
Malam Yahaya Muhammed Sani alleged that the perpetrators lured his son to a remote place where they murdered him.
According to Yahaya, his son was lured by his supposed friends to a farm house in Bagaji community of Keffi LGA to buy some materials.
He alleged that Ismail’s friend, Ibrahim, and an accomplice, Abduljal, under the pretext of buying scavenging materials allegedly killed him and buried his body in a shallow grave.
“What happened is that my son’s friend whom he usually helped came to him and told him that there were some items with his friend who wanted to sell them. My son is a scavenger locally known as (‘Yan Gwangwan). His killer friend came to my house around 8pm and they went together using Isma’il elder brother’s motorcycle. Since then, we have never heard of him”.
“As hours passed by without seeing him, we became suspicious and set out looking for him. We visited hospitals, police stations, vigilantes offices in Keffi LGA but couldn’t find any trace of him”.
“His friend who went with him came back to Isma’il’s shop and asked his boy about his boss’ whereabouts and later came back on Friday demanding money to leave town. Since then, we became suspicious of him and reported him to the police ”, said Yahaya.
The family searched for Ismaíl for six days before his decomposing body was discovered after one of the accomplices confessed to the crime.
“I was with the police and other security personnel who set out looking for Isma’il. We only heard of his death the day before yesterday, that is six days after he went missing. We combed every nook and cranny of Keffi looking for him but to no avail. It was his friend who killed him that led us to where they buried him,” a family member Salisu Sani told WikkiTimes.
“We found the motorcycle abandoned in the said farm house, Ibrahim took us there and we found his body that started decomposing, he was hit on the head before he died but all his body parts are intact”, added Salihu.
The police have arrested the suspects, but the family is demanding that they be punished for their crime.
“We want justice for our son,” Yahaya said adding that “We believe in the law and want the perpetrators to face the full wrath of the law.”
WikkiTimes could not confirm when the suspects would be arraigned in a court of law as efforts to speak to Ramhan Nansel, Police spokesman in Nasarawa, were unsuccessful.
Nansel neither picked up calls put across his phone number nor responded to text messages sent to him.
