Residents of Tsafe, the headquarters of Tsafe local government in Zamfara State have appealed to relevant authorities to as a matter of urgency deploy more security personnel to the area as armed gunmen continue to wreck havoc in the area.
Locals told WikkiTimes that they now live in fear as bandits are continuously attacking the area any time they whished, with killings and abduction of innocent citizens.
“The situation here is pathetic. We can’t count the number of days ‘yan fashi(bandits) attacked us. They can come anytime of the day, and anytime they come they either kill, abduct or both”.
“We have security agencies here but everytime they attacked us, they used to come in large number and so the security agencies can not contain them. During the last attack, they came with over seventy fighters on motorcycles and they engaged the security personnel. We are in need of urgent support from the government. We are helpless. These people are killing us day by day”,said a resident of the area who craved anonymity due to safety.
WikkiTimes understand that during Sunday’s attack in Tsafe, the bandits have tried to take over the town but were repelled by joint forces of military, police and Zamfara Community Protection Guards Askarawan Zamfara in which the local commander of the guards lost his life.
“They attacked us on Sunday night. They came in large number but the security personnel engaged them.They abducted some construction workers and killed Askarawa Commander Baba Aminu. As am talking to you right now, we live in fear. We have no where to go but our lives are in danger”, said Ahmed, another resident of Tsafe.
Zamfara State Government Reacts, Says it will do more to safeguard the people
Meanwhile, the Zamfara state governor, Dauda Lawal has sympathized with the affected families and assured them of his continued support in the fight against banditry.
Lawal, in a statement via his verified Facebook page said he is disturbed by the recurring bandits attacks in Zamfara communities and assured that his administration will continue to do the needful in ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens of the state.
“With deep sorrow, am extending my sympathy to the people of Tsafe local government and other areas that bandits attacked in Zamfara State”.
“The attempt by bandits to infiltrate Tsafe yesterday night was not successful as they were repelled by security agencies including Askarawa”.
“My condolences goes to the families of those who lost their love ones, especially the family of Acting Askarawa Commander in Tsafe, Aminu Sarkin Baura Tsafe who lost his life depending his people. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest “.
