The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has matriculated 5,181 students for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Architect Sunusi Waziri Gumau, the Rector of the Institution, said that the breakdown of the figure is, 1,745 for Higher National Diploma, 2,227 for National Diploma, 1,176 while 33 for IJMB.

He said that 8604 applicants applied for admission into the polytechnic and 8376 applicants were admitted, while 5,181 were registered successfully as bonafide students of the institution.

The Rector said that the management of polytechnic is doing everything possible to provide an atmosphere favourable for effective teaching and learning.

He said in a bid to maintain its very enviable place among its peers in the country, the institution has recently played host to over one hundred staff and resource persons from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna for accreditation, reaccreditation and resources inspections for the courses run in various academic departments of the polytechnic.

Architect Gumau said that the polytechnic has received approval for the accreditation and reaccreditation of nineteen programmes with additional approval to commence ten new ND and HND programmes.

The new programmes according to Sunusi Gumau are National Diploma Computer Engineering, National Diploma Fisheries Technology, National Diploma Crime Management, National Diploma Cooperative Economics and National Diploma Taxation.

Others are Higher National Diploma Science Laboratory Technology, Higher National Diploma Forestry Technology, Higher National Diploma Crop Production Technology as well as Higher National Diploma Library and Information Science.

“Today is the happiest day for you because as students here, you will start to have a place for self-discovery, not just your area of study, but also in skills acquisition, through our well prepared entrepreneurial development centre in conjunction with the various academic departments.

“While congratulating the matriculating students, I must be quick to tell you that the day is not only about celebrations, but it is a day for solicitude, reflection and T
thanksgiving for the opportunity God Almighty provided for you of gaining admission into the Polytechnic,” he said.

The Rector said as part of its reputation for academic excellence and character moulding, the polytechnic management will not be allowed to be compromised by actions or inactions of either staff or students no matter how highly placed they are.

Architect Gumau used the medium to appeal to the Federal Government to take charge of the provision of security to all the federal tertiary institutions as it has proven to be impossible for the institutions to pay for security and cleaning services from their meagre internally generated revenue.
