Nigeria’s former minister of communication and digital economy, Isa Ali Pantami has offered job and scholarship opportunities to Umar Ibrahim, an ex-corps member who was ridiculed when his iconic picture went viral on social media.
WikkiTimes reports that Umar’s iconic photo, years after his pose in Wailo Camp, resurfaced which led to campaigns that supported him with funds for Point of Sale business.
Pantami, who invited Umar to his Abuja residence, offered job slot in one of his foundations and a master’s degree scholarship in Nigeria.
Mr. El-Bonga, a media practitioner in Gombe tweeted pictures of Umar and Pantami after their discussion in Abuja, saying Umar was also attached to a mentor by Pantami, in a bid to actualize his dream in the renewable energy sector being a graduate of Physics.

“The scholarship offered to Umar covers his tuition fee and upkeep throughout the period of his study. Talks were also held about mentoring Umar to seek further opportunities within and outside Nigeria. Possibilities of a lecturing job were also discussed as well”.
“During the discussions, where @UmarIbrahimUm18 stated his dreams to further his education as a 2.1 graduate of Physics, Umar expressed his dreams to go into renewable energy. Thus, he was paired with a mentor by @ProfIsaPantami so as to groom him in the field of renewable energy”, tweeted Bonga.
WikkiTimes had earlier reported that a crowdfunding has been organized to support Umar to start a Point of Sales (POS) business in Gombe, a business he was ridiculed of being in when he was commanding a parade at the Wailo Camp, Bauchi during his service year’s.
Confirming the appointment and scholarship offered to him, Umar in a tweet expressed gratitude to all those that amplified his course leading to him being given the opportunity.
