FG, UAE Resoves Visa Restriction on Nigerians

The Federal Government has announced that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted a visa ban on Nigerians after resolution of their disagreements.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris made this known via his verified X page on Monday, saying an agreement has finally been reached with the UAE Government.

Idris said Nigerian passport holders intending to travel effective from July 15th, 2024 can do so after fulfilling some updated visa conditions.

The minister posted “Following successful talks and extensive, mutually beneficial negotiations between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria @NigeriaGov, an agreement was reached allowing for the resumption of travel to the UAE for Nigerian passport holders.

“This agreement includes updated controls and conditions to facilitate obtaining a UAE visa. The resumption of visas will be effective from July 15, 2024.”

In December 2021, the UAE limited travel for passengers from Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They claimed it was due to a rise in COVID-19 cases from these countries.

This restriction coincided with a diplomatic disagreement between Nigeria and the UAE. The issues included flight allowances for Nigeria’s Air Peace airline and money owed to the UAE’s Emirates Airlines that was stuck in Nigeria’s Central Bank.
