Filin Aljanu — A Water-strapped Kano Community

Residents of the Filin Aljanu in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State are one of the neglected communities suffering acute water scarcity.

In a video posted on Twitter by Mustapha Muhammad Baba, convener of Water the Needy Foundation, locals could be seen trooping to a mini stream to get [contaminated] water.

Baba, however, promised that his foundation would build a well for the community.

“From Filin Aljanu community, Doguwa LGA, Kano State, we shall in shaa Allah build a well for them,” he tweeted.

The locals further revealed that the contaminated water is the only source of water for drinking and other domestic use. Sadly, the water often gets polluted by animals.

Malam Salihu, village head of Filin Aljanu decried the tragic condition of the community. “There are many households here that depend on this water,” he said.

The monarch pleaded with responsible authorities to come to their aid and construct a source of clean water for the community. “We need a well or a borehole,” he pleaded.

Engr. Garba Ahmed, Director, Kano State Water Board was not available for comments. At press time, a text sent to him had not been responded to.
