The Jigawa Fire Directorate says it saved 22 lives and property worth over N172 million from fire incidences in the state between January and March.
The state Director of the agency, Alhaji Ahmad Danyaro, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Dutse.
Danyaro said that 16 lives were lost with property worth N177 million in the period under review.
He said that the period also recorded the loss of 12 animals with 22 others saved.
According to him, the directorate received 90 calls relating to fire outbreak and 12 calls relating to rescue operations.
The director therefore, advised members of the public to always switch off all electrical appliances before leaving office or going to bed.
“Parents are also advised to warn their children against reckless use of matches to avert fire outbreaks,” he said.
