Fire Guts Shops, Properties In Kwara

No fewer than seven shops with goods worth millions of naira were razed in Mayegun Street, Alagbado area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The explosion occurred on Tuesday evening around 7: 38pm, according to sources.

Bashirat Bashar, one of the victims whose properties were razed by the inferno, said her goods worth N2.5m were destroyed.

“I bought the razed goods in my shop newly and all the properties worth over N2.5m were destroyed,” she said, adding that the goods were delivered on Monday in preparation for Sallah sales.

A yet-to-be-identified woman was said to have sustained injuries and was taken to Fatimah Hospital for medical attention, WikkiTimes learnt. She would later be referred to another hospital in the town for comprehensive treatment.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the fire service spokesman in the state, confirmed the incident, saying it was caused by an “an accidental discharge during a gas delivering process.  

“At least seven container shops were affected in the fire incident, while one person was injured”, he said.
