Fire outbreak guts 11 shops, two houses at Railway market, Bauchi

A fire outbreak has destroyed 11 shops at railway Main market in Bauchi metropolis.

The inferno which started at about 11:30pm on Saturday lasted for many hours.

 A shop owner, Ishaq  Abdullahi told WikkiTimes that “I have lost everything I have to the fire,  we placed several calls to the fire service when the flames was eating our properties, there was no immediate response”, he said.

Ishaq who owns provision shop valued his loss at N1 million, adding that the cause of the fire remains unknown to them.

Speaking to newsmen on the incident, Sani Garba who disclosed that the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA had conducted an assessment on the incident said 11 shops and two houses were destroyed by the fire.

Commiserating with the victims during a visit, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed who expressed shock over the incident also assured the victims of immediate government’s support.

He said already, the State Emergency Management Agency has commenced assessment on the damages in order to provide the basic assistance that will provide succor for the victims.
