The Cheledi Development Association in Kirfi LGA of Bauchi State has organised a community self-help project to checkmate recurring flood in the area.
Umar S Fawa, the chairman of the association told WikkiTimes that they organised the project to clear water ways in an effort to mitigate the recurrent flooding in the community.
WikkiTimes reports that flooding has destroyed many houses and farmlands in Kirfi local government recently.
According to S Fawa, over three years, the community has been devastated by flood, a situation that makes residents to look for alternative ways to lessen the impact.
He added that the government has been doing its best in flood control measures, but much is needed as the flood keeps on recurring year after year.
“We organize this project as a result of recurring flood in our community. It has been happening for the past three to four years. The government has been doing its best but yet there’s flood in our community”.
“That is the reason why we said we can’t let our waterways blocked, which forced water to flood into the town. We have done our part, but we are appealing to authorities to come to our aid”, he said.
S.Fawa further said there is fear and anxiety in the mind of the Cheledi people whenever it is about to rain,”saying many of us are thinking of where to go should our houses submerged in the water”.
