Flood Kills 3 in Kebbi

No fewer than three locals were killed by a flood following a heavy downpour that lasted for over 12 hours in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Saturday.

Properties worth millions were also destroyed by the flood.

The council chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Suru, confirmed the casualty figures, adding that the flood destroyed people’s livelihoods.

“For over 20 years, we have been battling with the flood when it rains. The past administrations of Nasamu Dakingari and Atiku Bagudu constructed drainages in the town to solve the problem, but it didn’t stop the flood from occurring every year,” he said.

Flood-prone Bauchi LGs Seek Intervention

The chairman noted that the water flowing from the mountains in the town contributed to the recent disaster in the local government.

In a recent warning in regards to flooding, The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA had cautioned 14 states in the country to brace up for the possibility of flooding with Kebbi State inclusive
