Flood Kills A Police Officer, Two Others In Yobe

A heavy downpour which lasted for hours has killed persons, including a police officer in Gulani local government area of Yobe State.

WikkiTimes learnt that the 500 meters Gulani-Damaturu road was flooded away, leaving motorists and other road users plying the road stranded.

Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), confirmed the incident, stating that the flood had washed away over 11 communities in the area – houses, farmlands and livestock worth millions were also submerged.

Sabai, Jibulwa, Bara, Gagure, Kushmega, Garin Tuwo, Teteba, Ruhu and Gulani are communities hugely affected by the flood and all located on its borders with Borno and Gombe.

“The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency received with shock, the devastating incident of flooding in some parts of Yobe State, where the impacts of the reported flooding have assumed threatening proportions, resulting in loss of lives and properties.

He noted that the latest catastrophe wreaked havoc in the communities and displaced hundreds of households across the affected communities in Gulani and a community in Gujba local government areas.

SEMA said the displaced persons are currently taking refuge at government buildings across the affected communities.
