Flood: PRP Urges Bauchi Governor to Support Home Victims After Donating N250m to Borno

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Bauchi State Chapter has urged Governor Bala Mohammed support flood victims in the state as he donated 250 million naira to Borno state victims.

The party in a statement by its State Secretary, Abdulazeez Haruna, said the donation to Borno flood victims is commendable but drew his attention on the need to support his people who are for long in need of assistance.

The PRP said it is evident that the state is facing many challenges in addition to flood ranging from extreme poverty and unemployment, hunger which require urgent intervention first.

“However, as we commend this noble act, we cannot help but draw attention to our own unique brand of flood bedeviling people in Bauchi State. It is imperative that we address the festering floods of hunger, poverty, and unemployment that afflict our own citizens. After all, “charity begins at home,” the statement said.

“Unfortunately, hunger and destitution have become the norm for many families, while unemployment and poverty have taken a toll on our youth and women, it added.

The opposition party chided the state government on the need to address other issues in educational and health sectors.

“Across the state, including metropolitan areas, an uncountable number of schools are struggling to operate effectively due to a lack of chairs and desks, resulting in students and pupils being forced to sit on the floor. The staff in these sectors are not motivated, as their salaries do not take them home, leading to a brain drain and further decline in the quality of education and healthcare”, read some parts of the statement.

The PRP added that the government also needs to look into payments of gratuity in the state as patriotic citizens who have sacrificed their lives are left to suffer undue hardship due to non-payment of their hard-earned entitlements.

According to the party, settling their entitlement which can improve their condition is akin to supporting victims of natural disaster in Maiduguri.

The PRP said there is no gain in helping others while the immediate people of the state need the same assistance.

“As we commend the governor’s donation, we urge him to also address these pressing issues in our own state. We say it loud and clear: “Charity begins at home.” We implore the governor to prioritise the needs of our own people, who are crying out for help and relief. We cannot offer help in solving problems outside our state while neglecting those within”, it emphasized.
