The people of Maruta community in Gwaram Local Governmnt of Jigawa have appealed to the state government to intervene immediately to assist them because of the damage caused by flooding in the community.
Spokesman of the community, Malam Bilya Maruta made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.
Maruta told NAN that more than 100 houses were destroyed in the flooding while many farmlands were washed away.
He said that crops such as millet, maize, beans and guinea corn planted were completely washed away from the farms.
The spokesman therefore appealed to Jigawa government through the State Emergency Management Agency to quickly come to the aid of victims of the flood disaster in their domain.
“As I am speaking to you now, most of our people that were affected by the flooding are now taking refuge in primary schools while others have left the town.”
“We are earnestly calling on the Jigawa state government to come to our aid,’’ Maruta said. (NAN)
