The National Emergency Agency (NEMA) has said that it has begun the second phase of post-disaster assessment in 16 flood ravaged states in the 2024 rainy season.
Zubaida Umar, NEMA Director General said the assessment is to collect data from communities affected by the flood not covered in the first phase to ascertain flood impact across the states.
A statement posted via the agency’s X handle, indicated that the agency has already established an Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) to focus on data collection for managing the 2024 flood disaster.
Mrs. Umar said the assessment is in partnership with States Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs), the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
“The joint assessment with SEMAs and development partners is aimed at providing a unified, accurate representation of the flood’s impact across the affected states”, she said.
According to her, the second phase of the assessment includes Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Yobe, Kano states. Others are Sokoto, Plateau, Zamfara, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, Kaduna, Lagos, Ondo and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
