WikkiTimes reports that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has advised that many vulnerable communities be evacuated in anticipation of a flood disaster.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Mohammed Goje, disclosed the relocation plan while presenting food baskets to 250 households affected by flooding in Garin Kolo, Chukuriwa Ward of Nangere Local Government Area.

Mr Goje said the relocation move was aimed at reducing the impact of recurring floods, which have displaced residents, destroyed farmlands, and worsened food insecurity in the affected areas.

“The intervention followed severe flooding that displaced families and destroyed farmlands, further depleting food reserves. Moved by the hardship of the victims, Governor Buni immediately directed the delivery of food relief to cushion their suffering,” he said.

He explained that the support was based on a Rapid Needs Assessment and a sympathy mission carried out by SEMA.

According to him, the government acted swiftly after an appeal by community representatives was relayed to the agency.
