For Chasing Colleague’s Motorcycle into Trailer, Katsina Youths Set Police Van Ablaze

Angry youths in the city of Katsina State have set alight a police patrol van after it chased their colleague’s motorcycle into a trailer that crushed it.

The motorcyclist was being chased for a minor traffic violation and the youths were vexed by the police’s refusal to listen to their pleas on behalf of their colleague who crossed the wrong lane.

WikkiTimes learnt that the incident happened on Tuesday along Kofar Guga, in Katsina metropolis when the policemen attached to Motor Traffic Division, (MTD) stopped the motorcyclist.

While the officers and the youths were trading words, a trailer ran into the motorcycle and crushed it. This, WikkiTimes gathered, vexed the youths to set the police van on fire.

Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, spokesman for Katsina Police Command’ told our reporter the youths were trying to aid a suspect escape police arrest.

“On the 4th of July, 2023, at about 1300 hours, the Katsina State Police Command succeeded in arresting eight (8) suspects for aiding the escape of a suspect and attacking a Police Patrol Vehicle,” Aliyu stated in a statement he shared with WikkiTimes.

“The fact of the case is that today, July 4, 2023, at about 1300 hrs, at Kofar Guga quarters, Katsina metropolis, a commercial motorcycle rider, in a bid to escape arrest by men of the Command’s State Motor Traffic Division (MTD) while discharging their lawful duty, fell to the ground. While the suspected motorcyclist escaped, his motorcycle was crushed by a passing truck. In light of the foregoing, some unscrupulous elements took advantage of the situation, aided his escape, and attacked the Police Patrol Vehicle”, he added.

According to the police spokesman, the Area Commander Metro had after receiving the report mobilized and moved to the scene, where he rescued the situation and succeeded in arresting eight suspects for aiding the escape of the suspect and the attack on the police patrol vehicle.
