For Predicting APC Winner of Plateau Guber Election, Policeman Shoots Civilian

Solomon Damak, a police officer with Plateau Police Command has been arrested for shooting one Nyommena Badapba, a resident of Tudun Wada community in Jos North local council over a political argument about which party wins the gubernatorial election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the presidential and parliamentary polls last Saturday; and planning the same exercise for the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections. This is despite disagreements by opposition parties — Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party — who were challenging the results of the election that portrayed All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Bola Tinubu as the president-elect.

According to Daily Trust, the police officer shot the victim on his shoulder when the latter argued that APC would win the gubernatorial contest. The incident, WikkiTimes learnt, happened on Sunday. But the victim had been taken to Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, for treatment.

DSP Alabo Alfred, spokesperson for Plateau Police Command confirmed the incident. He told Daily Trust that the officer’s firearms had been recovered and he had been detained for disciplinary actions.

“The circumstance that led to the infliction of the gun injury by the recalcitrant officer does not fit into his professional calling but was done out of vindictiveness which contradicts the attributes of a Nigerian police officer.

“In order to ensure that the officer does not evade justice, the officer had been arrested, his firearm was recovered and he has since been detained for disciplinary action,” he said.
