One Nafeesa Vandi, a staff of News Department, Adamawa Broadcasting corporation, Yola and mother of three was reportedly beaten blue black by her husband in Adamawa after she was sighted in another man’s car.
The husband, Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, who is a staff of the Power Holding Company Of Nigeria, PHCN, allegedly beat Nafeesa into a stupor on Wednesday, 17 August.
DAILY POST reports that Nafeesa and Ibrahim had long separated as couples and they live apart, but not officially
divorced.
However, Mallam Ibrahim reportedly reacted aggressively after he saw Nafeesa alighting from the car of another man.
In reaction to the unfortunate incident, The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Adamawa State council in a statement, denounced the assault and battering of Nafeesa, one of its female members.
State NUJ chairman, Ishaka Donald Dedan described the beating of the practicing journalist as unacceptable, wickedness, and barbaric.
The statement read in part: “Though the police have already swung into action in investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence, the NUJ calls for a more speedy action towards the immediate arrest and prosecution of the said Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu according to the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,”
“The union further calls on national and international organizations like FIDA, UNFPA, UNICEF as well as Civil Society Organizations that are propagating a total halt on violence against women to step on the matter for justice to prevail.”
