The Chikaran Bauchi Foundation, a charitable organization has donated medicine and mats to the Bauchi Medium Security Custodial Center, aimed at improving the well-being of inmates.
The head of the foundation, Almustapha Haji Sufi said they provided essential support to improve the health and comfort of those in custody.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Bauchi State Command, ASC Ahmad Usman Tata.
While presenting the items on Saturday, Sufi added that the gesture was also to complement the efforts of the Government and the Nigerian Correctional Service in maintaining the health of inmates.
He noted that the donation was motivated by the recent outbreak of diseases such as malaria and fever in Bauchi, which has strained health services.
According to Sufi, many citizens outside the correctional facilities are also struggling to access medicine due to the economic difficulties in the country.
In his response, the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Ibrahim Bawa, who oversees the center, expressed his gratitude to the foundation.
He assured that the donated items would be put to good use and urged other organizations to follow the example set by the Chikaran Bauchi Foundation.
