At least four persons were feared dead when armed bandits reportedly attacked Nasarawa Area in Maru, the Headquarters of Maru local government area of Zamfara State.
Local sources said the waylaying gunmen invaded the town in their large numbers wielding sophisticated weapons in the early hours of Friday, shooting sporadically before they were engaged by forces from Operation Hadarin Daji.
Abdul Balarabe, a Zamfara-based Journalists wrote that there was a very serious gun duel between troops of Operation Hadarin Daji and heavily armed bandits last night in Maru LGA of Zamfara.
He confirmed that the terrorists stormed Nasarawa area in Maru town at about 3am, while the troops who responded to distress call engaged the terrorists for more than 2 hours.
“However, multiple sources said 4 people were killed in Maru including one Sa’adu ADC and an aged man named Isah Makiyaya,” Abdul tweeted.
WikkiTimes recalled that earlier this year, a Divisional Police Officer in the Maru and two other police officers were killed while repelling a similar attack on the local government headquarters.
When contacted, Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, said he is not aware of the incident but would confirm and revert. He is yet to do so as of press time.
